SkooshTM Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to spray my own bed if my pet sleeps on it?
Human bedding does not usually need to be treated, as fleas will not typically develop in any material that is washed at least monthly.
Can I use SkooshTM on my leather sofa?
SkooshTM can be used on most surfaces. However, before using on potentially delicate fabrics such as leather, we recommend that you test a small, out of sight area to check the suitability of the product with the material.
Do I need to spray my curtains?
No, furnishings such as curtains do not normally need treating, unless the animal sleeps on them.
How much should I spray?
Direct the nozzle approximately 40cm from the surface you want to treat and, using a sweeping motion; apply a 14 second spray per square metre. Shake well before use.
My pet had fleas and so I treated with a spot-on product. Do I still need to spray the house with SkooshTM?
YES, the fleas on a pet are most commonly picked up from within the animals own home and may represent only 5% of the overall flea population. Using SkooshTM will enable you to rapidly eliminate the remaining 95%, including eggs, larvae, pupae and adult fleas, living in your carpets.
I have just moved into an empty house and I have no pets, however I am seeing fleas and being bitten. Where have they come from?
It is likely these fleas are hatching from pupae which were laying dormant in the house before you moved in.
In the past, flea eggs have been dropped onto the carpets from a host animal (usually a dog or cat). These eggs subsequently hatched into larvae, before going on to pupate. In this state fleas can remain dormant for up to 18 months. Upon your arrival the pupae were stimulated by your movement and started to hatch.
Traditional pesticide and IGR based environmental flea sprays are ineffective against existing pupae, which continue to hatch into adult fleas, over a number of weeks or even months.
SkooshTM, prevents existing pupae from hatching and therefore rapidly eliminates the infestation within the house.
How safe are the ingredients used in SkooshTM?
Unlike other environmental flea sprays, SkooshTM does not contain any pesticides. Instead it contains silicones, which are extremely safe and used in a wide variety of human products, including skin creams, make up, oral medications and headlice lotions.
How does SkooshTM work if it doesn’t contain any pesticides?
SkooshTM contains the silicones dimeticone and cyclomethicone. These coat the fleas acting as a “sticky trap”. The adults and larvae are rendered immobile and the pupae and eggs are unable to hatch.
My children play on the floor. It is safe to spray the carpets?
YES, SkooshTM is pesticide free and can be used safely with babies and children in the house.
Can I use SkooshTM if I am pregnant?
YES, SkooshTM is pesticide free and can be used safely if you are pregnant.
Is SkooshTM safe if I have other animals (fish, reptiles, birds, rabbits etc…..) in the room?
YES. Traditional environmental flea sprays contain pesticides which can be highly toxic to fish and reptiles. By contrast, SkooshTM is pesticide free and safe to use in an environment shared by other animal species.
Where should I spray SkooshTM?
SkooshTM should be used on areas which your pet has direct contact with. These include pet bedding, carpets, sofas, furnishing and car seats.
Do I need to spray hard tiles/ laminate flooring?
Hard non-porous tiles and laminate flooring do not need to be treated.
Do I need to spray floorboards?
Gaps between floorboards should be treated, as these may contain developing fleas or pupae. However if eggs, larvae and/or pupae may have fallen though the floor boards, these may be difficult to treat. If you have any concerns please call the SkooshTM Customer Support Line on 01494 781510 for further advice.
Do I have to air the room / open the windows during and after spraying?
NO, SkooshTM is completely odourless and pesticide free. There is therefore no need to air the room during and after spraying.
How soon after spraying can I let my dog and cat back in the room?
We recommend removing your dog and cat from the room when spraying, as they may find the noise of the aerosol alarming. However, as soon, as the room has been sprayed, your pets can go back into the room.
How quickly will I stop seeing fleas?
In clinical field trials, SkooshTM was found to have a rapid knockdown effect on adult fleas within 3 minutes. SkooshTM is also effective against all four life cycle stages of the flea (eggs, larvae, adults AND PUPAE), and will therefore rapidly eliminate an environmental infestation. By contrast, traditional pesticidal flea sprays are ineffective against pupae, which continue to hatch into adult fleas for several weeks after spraying.
Can I vacuum after treating my carpets with SkooshTM?
Traditional pesticide based flea sprays may require you to vacuum the carpets every other day after spraying. This is because these treatments are ineffective against pupae, and regular vacuuming is needed in order to stimulate the pupae to hatch before the pesticides are able to work. SkooshTM, however, is effective against pupae and so every other day vacuuming is not required in order for the product to work.
However you may vacuum if you wish.
How long does SkooshTM last?
After using SkooshTM, the treated environment should remain free of hatching fleas for at least six weeks. Reapplication may be needed after this period. However, treating pets regularly with an on-animal product will ensure a much longer flea-free period. Your vet will be able to advise on which treatment is most appropriate for your pet.
Can I spray SkooshTM directly on my dog or cat?
NO, SkooshTM is an environmental spray and is therefore not designed to be sprayed on your dog or cat.
Can fleas bite people?
YES, although fleas don`t live on people, they can bite and commonly cause red marks around the ankles and lower legs.
